I’m not sure I’d even reserve this as an opportunity for a seasoned desktop professional. In all honesty – there is not many people out there that has both xenapp(citrix), hyper-v, and packaging experiance. Maybe I just contradicted myself.  Perhaps this is indeed a great opportunity for somebody who started their career on the helpdesk and worked their way into an engineering/citrix role. The only thing i do not see is “scripting” as none of this could be accomplished without the ability to script. Mainly VB or Powershell or even VB.NET.

This is a farily interesting opportunity. Its not quite often one gets to migrate an old 4.5 farm to Xenapp 6 and there is honestly no easy way to do it without recreating the farm and datastore. This would be a fun opportunity, and it honestly appears as if there is not much available Citrix/Xenapp talent in or around the charlotte Area. Of course, at a quick glance, this farm is relatively small and chances are the entire infrastructure is only running on VMware servers which is a sore point for us. Other then that, I’d be willing to guess the entire farm is hosted in your run of the mill access datastore.

And the details…

Must haves:
-          3-5 years Citrix Admin experience
-          Citrix server troubleshooting experience
-          Exposure to Citrix Presentation Server 4.5
-          Working knowledge of XenApp 6 (only been out 2 years)
-          Working knowledge of Citrix Provisioning Server (out for 1.5 years)
-          Active Directory
-          Working knowledge of VMware
-          Exposure to Citrix edge site server (a server performance monitoring tool)

Day to day administrative tasks:

-      Monitor Citrix servers on a daily basis
-      Resolve trouble tickets pertaining to Citrix
-      Add additional servers in the farm when applicable
-      Update all Citrix servers with service and security packs
-      Implement additional applications where applicable
-      Make modification to Citrix servers to support applications
-      Focus on overall direction of the Citrix environment

This environment is currently in Citrix Presentation Server 4.5 with 25 Citrix servers sitting on the farm. They are going to be migrating all of these servers from this Presentation Server 4.5 to XenApp 6. Because these environments are fairly new they need to have a strong working knowledge and/or exposure to them. The biggest thing for this group is that they need to have the desire to learn, strong aptitude and ability to sit with the manager and have strategy sessions in terms of how to function in this implementation project.
