To our 15 readers – we have been asked to take the same code base we used in our RDP vulnerability scanner and apply it to the ever expanding VMware product offering.  And to be completely honest, this is a vertical or vendor I would normally steer away from simply because I believe there are more powerful alternatives to “everything” VMware. Alternative solutions that deliver better performance and reliability at a drastically reduced pricing model.

Our normal spin on things:
Our desire to tactfully complete this request is seemingly annoying.  One of the reasons we can be brutally honest is because we DO NOT open our website to any advertising. We speak specifically to technology users in the trenches working on these technologies with bruit honesty and dry humor.

I’m confused are you going to do it or not?
You just told us you were considering adding more features to your wildly popular vulnerability scanner right? Indeed we did and we have a beta product offering to those readers who are interested, nothing magical and all native API.  At this point – we take the past 12 months of VMware vulnerabilities and allow you to scan your infrastructure very quickly and over multiple threads. The offering is beta so we are only offering limited exposure to our 15 readers. If interested – login, click on the profile tab and click the radio button requesting beta testing access (keyword VMware). Continue reading “VMware vulnerability scanner” »

Okay, so check this out. How cool would it be to finally have one small application to optimize your VDI infrastructure? Wait no Underperforming VDI? We have a fix for that!more, because it’s here and step aside others. We took some of the more popular registry which should be managed by GPO plopped them into one console/form application.  This code is deployable, and can be run on one or many hosts (server and desktops).

As a system administrator or power home user, there are a plenty of settings to choose from in an effort to make your virtual assets perform slightly better. These optimizations can be highly complex and difficult to relate to your “specific” needs.  Each group of optimization settings is categorized by the Operating System. If you’re VDI or OS Version does not support the optimization setting, it will not be applied.

Here is an example of some of the more powerful settings that can be optimized. Remember – the goal here is to get out of the “physical asset” mindset and make the user experience better for your VDI end users. Teradici and VMware, you should pay more attention to these settings. XenDesktop – you are completely awesome! Keep on keeping it real Citrix and XenApp. Continue reading “VDI Optimization Tool” »

I’ve seen several interesting things go array with teradici chips.  And this latest one takes the bait.  This PCoIP device has only been up for around 1 day but when you do a ping -t against the IP you will see the pings time out for seval packets each minute.

  • [Issue Log]
  • Other hosts on the same subnet do not reflect this type of activity (expected)
  • While accessing the PCoIP Host Card – it will time out when the issue happens and you will get the “your session has ended” message.
  • No errors are logged in the ‘event log’ message on the Host Card
  • Host Card appears to be in an ‘endless’ boot/reboot cycle
  • [Next Steps]
  • Card will most likely need to go through the RMA process and sent back.
