What do you think of when somebody says the word ‘user virtualization’? Most would say AppSense right? Apparently not frinds. There is an alternative in the user virtualization space and they happen to be OpenSource.

www.slyadmin.com offers a very low cost alternative to user virtualization to corporate customers and an open source version to the educational sector. We had to get our hands on this product and seeing it runs several different database platforms (sql, mysql, oracle, sybase) any effort was worth it. And trust me, it took some efforts to get this startup company to give us a spin. If you happen to contact them, keep at it because this product is awesome and their website is relatively new and evolving.

In the next few days, we will demo the user virtualization product by www.slyadmin.com.   I honestly believe this product not only stands up to the hype, but also stays true to the open source model. User virtualization at its best and without all the fluff!

Here is a quick caprure of our first launch of the product. I am so completely excited about this product and to be completely honest - I truly dig thir ability to boast the product as low cost alternative to corporations looking to further leverage their vmware, citrix, and xenapp infrastructure with seamless user virtualization and complete entity control! Cheers SlyAdmin! Good work!

Please check back as we take this great opportunity to work on a relatively new product dealing very effectively with user virtualization.

With the complete onslaught of more and more people wanting to test/automate tasks with QTP I wanted to quickly document how to find out which version of QTP is installed on your XenApp Terminal server or Workstation. And I’d also like to add an opinion because I honestly believe QTP was a better product before Mercury Interactive was sold to HP. I just seems that anything HP purchases becomes part of their black hole and lost in never never land. Not to mention finding any support on HP’s website is completely impossible to navigate. Nevertheless – hey Mercury people out there, can you buy back QTP and run it the way it once was? Please please?

  • Now I’m done -here is how to quickly identify the version of QTP installed.
  • Version 8 was still owned by Mercury Interactive to you need to look for the QTPro.exe directory in ‘C:\Program Files\Mercury Interactive\QuickTest Professional\bin\QTPro.exe”.
  • Version 10 is branded HP and where the mess with license server and web downloads start. So does the complication of installing QTP for  multi user environments like Citrix Servers and Terminal servers.
  • For Version 10, you need to look in the following directory for QTPro.exe > ‘C:\Program Files\HP\QuickTest Professional\bin\qtpro.exe’

Very easy huh? I guess in ending – at least HP still gives props to Mercury Interactive (Israel) for the company name. And as far as I’m concerned Israel as a country has some solid developers and has advanced technology in may different sectors of information technology.

Honestly, I’m seriously starting to dig Google+ now that I have the application loaded up on the iPhone. I’m honestly trying to make + my go-to instead of Facebook, but unfortunately my Facebook habit is to strong right now.

That being said, I’m optimistic Google will eventually pull me in even further as I’m a huge fan of their products. Since I started using the + I’ve noticed a few interesting things that can usually be addressed by closing the application and relaunching it.

The ongoing list:
** If Google+ is running on the iPhone, any pictures taken with the iPhone will not be updated in the “from your phone” section under “Photos” until you restart the application. The handy feature of sliding your finger downwards to activate the “release to refresh” option does not work.
** The “Notifications” section keeps reflecting the count of incoming messages, even after I read them.  This seems to happen at completely random intervals.

Whats next on my to-do list?
** add the “1 up” button to both drupal and wordpress configurations which should allow for me to take advantage of the “+1 metrics” portion of Google Webmaster Tools. I’m interested in building out and seeing what the “Audience” and “Search Impact” profile looks like.  Both should populate over time as more and more people use and share resources within Google+ and one up links via the search engine.
