M2E and the Nirvana Phone

by admin on Feb.08, 2010, under Ramblings

Open Kernel Labs and Citrix Systems recently announced the plans to further develop the Nirvana Phone.  Essentially the smart phone will allow users to access their corporate desktop via XenApp (published desktop), and integrate with your mouse, keyboard and monitor. Essentially this thing is a thin client which is the size of your standard smart phone.

Ramblings:

  • This is a great idea, one could only imagine a day where video, keyboard, and mouse are delivered from a phone over bluetooth.
  • The phone display is somewhat lame, and by the looks may only deliver a gameboy type of look and feel.
  • Open Kernel Labs would be the one to finally deliver on a this M2E technology. Their flagship software OLK4 is running on more than 500 million mobile phones worldwide.
  • I’d be interesting to track this company’s stock price, but unfortunately its not publiclytraded as of yet. And a quick google search reveals no IPO information (not like it would) or potential buy outs from other technology entities.

**Definition of M2E (virtualization): M2E virtualization enables end users to leverage a single device, bridging corporate and personal worlds without risk of compromising company data, applications, or networks.

** Definition of SaaS: Software as a Service
