Google vs Sogou

I couldn’t help but notice the similarities between the two search engines. In fact, the colors are almost the same as well when you compare Sogou to Google.  What initially sparked my interest with Sogou is how its caches this specific website. Unlike Google, MSN or Yahoo, there does not seem to be any type of attachment to RSS or Atom feeds. These pushes to read content are commissioned server side and not automatically initiated when an update is made to the site. I guess if you think about it, there probably is a concern by the Chinese government on how the data gets displayed by its users, so somebody probably manually validates each page on any new site update for any filtered words. If true, I could only imagine how slowly data would trickle through to the Chinese people – especially when it comes to breaking news.

I guess with above in mind there is no way Sogou will overtake the Google China presence, at least until they can refine their spiders ability to interpret language, and read RSS. Oh and have a person validate the data. LOL, kind of funny…

Take a look at the two images below, one image is of the Sogou search engine and one image is of the Google search Engine.

Honestly, I’m seriously starting to dig Google+ now that I have the application loaded up on the iPhone. I’m honestly trying to make + my go-to instead of Facebook, but unfortunately my Facebook habit is to strong right now.

That being said, I’m optimistic Google will eventually pull me in even further as I’m a huge fan of their products. Since I started using the + I’ve noticed a few interesting things that can usually be addressed by closing the application and relaunching it.

The ongoing list:
** If Google+ is running on the iPhone, any pictures taken with the iPhone will not be updated in the “from your phone” section under “Photos” until you restart the application. The handy feature of sliding your finger downwards to activate the “release to refresh” option does not work.
** The “Notifications” section keeps reflecting the count of incoming messages, even after I read them.  This seems to happen at completely random intervals.

Whats next on my to-do list?
** add the “1 up” button to both drupal and wordpress configurations which should allow for me to take advantage of the “+1 metrics” portion of Google Webmaster Tools. I’m interested in building out and seeing what the “Audience” and “Search Impact” profile looks like.  Both should populate over time as more and more people use and share resources within Google+ and one up links via the search engine.
