ica keep alive settings

How to modify the ICA keep-alive query settings at the farm level:

The Xenapp Citrix Access Management Console allows you to configure the ICA keep-alive settings on either the farm level or on a per server bases. Essentially the purpose of the keep-alive query is to query user sessions at a specified (timed) interval, and if a session does not respond it is then automatically placed in a disconected state/mode. This allows the user to easily reconnect at a later time and not have to fire up a whole new session.

We question if this is indeed necessary in xenapp 4.5 or 5 but legacy versions of citrix recommend you to ensure optimal client performance and optimal session performance.

To view or change your farms ICA Keep-alive settings at the farm level:

1 .Open your Citrix Access Management console

2. Expand Citrix Resources

3. Expand Presentation Server

4. Right-click on your "farm name"

5. Click on Properties

4. Click ICA Keep-Alive.

If not currently activated and you want to activate, click on the box to the left of "ICA Keep-Alive time-out value(1-3600 seconds) and key in your value.

5. The default time-out value of 60.
6. Click Apply

7. Click on OK to save your settings.

Its questionable, and unique to each case, but I don't believe there is a preferred way to configure the ICA keep alive settings in your XenApp farm. At least at the farm level. In the past, I can conjure up a few times where it would be nice to have on one specific server that serves a region with slower network speeds.
