Installing Windows Virtual PC Integration
Components: So you have just finished up on your
new server install on via a virtual pc on your
brand spanking new windows 7 64bit OS (like us)
and you happen to notice some super annoying
mouse activity when you set screen focus by
clicking within the Windows virtual PC. Have no
worries, follow the following instructions on
how to install the Integration Components for
Windows Virtual PC.
- Virtual pc can be a nice clean install,
or a dirty junked up configuration you have
had laying around for some time.
- Next click on the "tools" drop down and
select "Install Integration Components"
- At the following prompt, click on
"continue" to proceed with the install.
-

- If you have seen this message
several times and you would like to not
see it again, simply click on the box to
the left of "Don't show this message
again" prompt prior to clicking on
"Continue" and you will never see this
prompt again.
- Now login if you have not already done
so
- To login, click on "Ctrk+Alt+Del"
- Now click within the Virtual PC with
your mouse and enter your username, and
password
- If needed, click the "tools" drop
down and select "install integration
components" one more time.
- You should now see the following prompt
-

- Click on "run setup.exe"
- if this prompt is annoying and you
don't want windows to remind you about
this prompt, then place a check mark to
the left of "Always do this for software
and games"
- if you happen to see the very well
familiar msiexec.exe prompt than you should
pat yourself on the back and think "almost
done!"
-

- don't click on cancel, unless you
absolutely need to
- Now here is your chance to make a
difference pay attention to the supported
operating systems:
- windows xp sp3
- windows vista sp1
- windows 7
- if the OS your virtual pc is hosted
on falls into the above three
requirements than bang, hit next!
-

- click on next to proceed and watch
msiexec.exe do its job. this is fun huh?
- depending on the memory and processor
allocations for your virtual pc, this should
take no time at all to complete
- barring no error messages, you
should see the "setup completed" prompt,
click on "finish to exit
- you should also see the neat little
prompt indicating "your devices are
ready to use" if you happen to be
installing the integration components on
a Server 2008 virtual pc like us.
- I'm sure you have been wondering: "when
is this darn thing going to ask me to
reboot"...
- we are proud to say here is your
opportunity, take control and allow your
virtual pc (or server) to reboot
- do it, click on "yes" and bounce it
- wait.... hopefully this is a
production instance where you have
active users. If it is. please
kindly send your friends a quick
note via tsadmin.exe and allow the
users some time to gracefully log
off.
