- If not already known, the windows update
control panel is the primary tool you would
use to manage software updates on windows 7
hosts. Whether 1 computer at your home or
several hundred at work, the same console
can be used to configure your update
settings.
- Upon install of windows 7, should you
choose the default settings, windows update
will attempt to detect and install updates
(important) and will continue moving forward
every day at 3:00AM (assuming the pc is
powered on or in sleeping/hibernation mode
with network/internet access).
- How can check the settings manually?
- a manual check will automatically
download and install necessary updates.
- to manually check for updates via
the command line type in >
wuauclt.exe /detectnow from
command line or the run prompt.
- alternatively you can go to
start > all programs
> and windows update or
from control panel, click on
windows update

- click on check for updates
to proceed
- if the update attempt fails, you may
receive the following error code
8024402F indicating windows
update encountered an unknown error.

- if you are on a corporate network
and you receive the 8024402F error, you
may be prohibited at the proxy level to
receive updates from Microsoft, or you
may have an internal WSUS infrastructure
which will server the necessary updates
as needed.
- If you are on a home network and you
receive the 8024402F error, check if you
have internet access.
